The Burnaby Central Railway is a delightful miniature railroad located near Vancouver, British Columbia. Operated by the British Columbia Society of Model Engineers, it offers train rides to the public. Here are the key details:
- Location: It’s situated in Confederation Park, specifically at 120 North Willingdon Avenue, about 5 blocks north of East Hastings St in Burnaby, BC1.
- Ride Experience: Visitors can hop aboard scale-size replica live-steam locomotives and enjoy a scenic ride through the woods. The track spans over three kilometers, featuring bridges, viaducts, tunnels, crossovers, and spirals. Each looping ride takes approximately 10 minutes2.
- Operating Hours: The railway is open to the public for rides on Saturdays and Sundays from Easter to Canadian Thanksgiving, between 11 am and 5 pm (last ticket sales at 4:45 pm)3.
- Engines: The steam engines are true 1/8th scale miniatures, hand-built from drawings, patterns, and castings. They run on propane and huff and puff just like their full-size counterparts3.
It’s a fantastic family-friendly experience, combining history, engineering, and outdoor fun!
