To stop the foreshore of Stanley Park from eroding, a stone wall known as the seawall was built around the park in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Informally, the phrase also refers to the seawall’s pedestrian, bicycle, and rollerblading walkway, which has been extended well beyond Stanley Park’s boundaries and is now one of the park’s most frequently used amenities by both locals and visitors. From 1931 until his retirement, James ‘Jimmy’ Cunningham, a skilled mason, devoted his life to building the seawall.
