February 27, 2023

Event Time:

8:30 am

Event Location:

540 Seymour - Room 206

This is an IN PERSON workshop!

Why is English so weird? Is it a Germanic language or a Romance language? Why do Americans say “r” sounds, but some English people do not? The answers to these and many other questions will be found in this informative and interactive workshop. We will follow English from its beginnings in Northern Germany onwards through events like the Norman Conquest and the Great Vowel Shift, ending with a survey of the diverse global Englishes that continue to make it a fascinatingly dynamic language in the present.

This workshop is intended for students at levels I3 +. It will be at 540 Seymour, room 206
